Raleigh has a large and continually growing bicycle culture and as a result, a growing need for the supporting infrastructure. To aid in this growth and bring positive attention to this environmental and health conscious mode of transportation, Architecture for Humanity - Raleigh put into motion a competition to allow the members of the community to design unique and functional bike racks for the downtown area. This competition aims to generate custom artistic bike rack designs that represent the five distinct districts of downtown, promote public art, and help Raleigh achieve it’s goal of being a bike-friendly city.
SEEDS
I spoke with Lucy Harris the director of SEEDS in Durham. She is very interested in working with us because they are purchasing a building to be renovated. She is thrilled about the possibility of us doing some design work for them!
Check out www.seedsnc.org to see what their organization is all about.
Lucy would like for a couple of us to go out and meet with her next week to discuss possibilities. She said it could be after business hours as long as it is not too late.
If you have experience with building codes, renovations, or are interested in this organization let me know and we can set up a time to meet! We can discuss it further at our meeting on tuesday.

Bike Rack Proposal
I've contacted a few people in the City of Raleigh and the BPAC (Bicycle Pedestrian Advisory Committee) and they seem really enthusiastic at the prospect of unique, creative bike racks!
I have a detailed proposal document going and an informative pdf from the City about Streetscape Improvement Projects they are working on, that the bike racks could possibly compliment. But here are the basic ideas:
*Possible locations:
1. Downtown Public Realm
2. Fayetteville St. - a good spot since the majority of the streetscape improvements have been completed. They are now looking to add details like bike racks here.
3. Moore Square - the city is looking to revitalize this area.
*Rules/Regulations:
If it is placed in a public Right-of-Way, encroachment approval is required by the city.
-The process for that – Complete a City Permit application and submit to the Downtown Permits office for same day approval.
*General Design Ideas:
a. Visual appeal to spike an interest in biking
b. Made from salvaged materials
c. Minimal/simple design
d. Includes AFH info

A few other tasks that could be taken on by the marketing team:
add information to the "about us" page
find/create an image for our chapter page
